We called Leeds Dog School for help with our 9 month old Boston Staffie cross we were struggling to walk him as he pulled constantly on the lead, we also needed help with him jumping all over us when we came home or when we were sat on the sofa trying to watch the TV. Ruth came to visit us and taught us how to deal with Reggie jumping up at everyone and within minutes it was clear to see that this was working. Ruth also came with us for a walk and taught us how to stop Reggie pulling like a train I am so pleased as I can now walk Reggie without being pulled all over. I would highly recommend Leeds Dog School if you are struggling with your pooch

Ruth is amazing, she has given us the best advice on walking our two rescue terridoodles aged 11 months. I used to cross over the road and avoid other people and dogs but now I am more confident and proud to go exploring with them. We had so much advice from other dog owners but none of it worked for us. Within the session with Ruth we had learned so much and was able to practice and get it right!  I'm so pleased to have met Ruth and to be giving my dogs a second chance in a forever home.

Patch, our newly adopted rescue springador, did not take to my husband John at all, barking and growling as soon as he appeared and then running away into another room. Rob's techniques gave an immediate and sustained improvement and the relationship is now good. Time for 'walkies' training next and looking forward to Rob's input again.

We rescued our dog in May and he became very aggressive within a few weeks, he's bitten us a number of times, we had training with a previous trainer and didn't seem to work, Rob came around and within half an hour had shown our dog he was boss and taught us how to become the boss! We don't need any other sessions but we are going to book some others to progress further!

We met Rob today with our very difficult rescue Saluki. Rob was positive and reassuring and we saw an immediate improvement with Casper. We know there is work to continue with but we are confident that we have made that elusive, important first step today and are enormously relieved and impressed. Would wholeheartedly recommend Robs' services to anyone struggling with an aggressive dog.

Just had our session with Rob helping us with our rescue Staffy 'Maisy'. Maisy would pull on the lead and lunge at other dogs. Rob has shown us a number of techniques that has completely changed her behavior in almost minutes.Rob has given us all the tools we need moving forward and will call on Leeds Dog School again if needed!

Training you Rescue Dog is vital from day one! Rescue dogs or puppies may have been mistreated or may simply have bad behaviour so it’s important that you get expert help as soon as possible.

STOPPING BAD BEHAVIOUR FROM DAY ONE!

It’s tempting to put your Rescue dog’s bad behaviour down to its bad experience and tolerate barking, biting, pulling on the lead, and aggression for a time. This is not acceptable and unless these behaviour are not dealt with quickly your life will be a misery. Your dog needs stability and training and a routine provides this

ONE TO ONE BEHAVIOUR TRAINING

At Leeds Dog School we train your Rescue dog and you! We believe that one to one training with you and your dog at your home is the best way of training and stopping dog bad behaviour. This allows us to concentrate on your specific problems. All this means that you can follow up our training and make sure your dog does not slip back into its old ways.

It's vital to get them on the right track as soon as possible. Dogs learn quickly what behaviour is acceptable but they have to be taught.

We visit your home and we will go for a walk with you and your dog or puppy to ensure that you know exactly how to correct bad behaviour and to reward good behaviour. Ignoring dog bad behaviour is wrong it should always be corrected when behaving badly and only good behaviour should be rewarded.

RUNNING AWAY AND WILL NOT COME BACK

Poor recall is probably the most common dog bad behaviour that we come across. It makes it almost impossible to let your dog or puppy off the lead on a walk. The owner is constantly anxious that it will simply ignore them.  We can teach you a few techniques that solve this and make going for a walk a pleasure.

PULLING ON THE LEAD

Pulling on the lead is uncomfortable for you and the for your dog. Most dogs unless properly trained are likely to pull on the lead and this makes going for a walk an unpleasant experience. Owners have often been advised to buy a harness. We do not recommend them unless you want your dog trained to pull a sledge like a husky! Similarly, choke chains are positively dangerous. We offer a number of methods which solve this permanently and easily.

JUMPING UP AT PEOPLE AT HOME OR ON A WALK

Our objective in dog training is to train our clients to control their dog or puppy. We are training the owner almost as much as the dog or puppy. Until you have the right techniques jumping up will always be a problem. Once your dog realises that you are in charge, this kind of behaviour stops. We will teach you the simple techniques quickly and easily.

Jumping-2.jpg

Aggression in a dog whether to other dogs or to people is totally unacceptable. We have to teach our clients to be assertive and to know how to correct the dog to prevent aggression happening in the first place. Our training is not theoretical but practical and we give you practical techniques to take control.

LEEDS DOG SCHOOL STOP DOG BAD BEHAVIOUR

YOU CANNOT STOP BAD BEHAVIOUR WITH A TREAT-IT DOES NOT WORK!

Some trainers believe that giving a dog treats is the best way to train but in our opinion relying on treats exclusively just does not work. Your dog may learn how behave but only does it at because there's a treat at the end of it and many times treats just stop working. Essentially you are bribing the dog to behave properly. Bad behaviour by a dog makes an owner’s life a misery. Our dog training solves problems with bad behaviour as this is our speciality. Many of the problems are very common and we work with your dog and just as importantly, with you at your home or on a walk, to solve the problems.

What problem dog behaviour do you deal with

If your dog is, jumping up at people or you, stealing food, destructive, running out of the door,  barking constantly, aggressive to humans or dogs and more … you need home 1-2-1 home training. Two hours is usually enough to cure most problems because we train you to take control and then you don’t need us anymore.

What areas of Yorkshire do you cover

We train throughout Yorkshire. We come to your home wherever you live in Yorkshire and work with you and your dog or puppy on a 1-2-1 basis.

What breeds do you train

We train all breeds of dog from "designer" dogs such as the cockapoo or labradoodle through to working dogs such as spaniels and terriers. We also specialise in larger dogs such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, all Mastiffs.

My dog is terrible when I go for a walk can you help

Pulling on the lead , running away and refusing to return, and barking and lunging at other dogs  are the most common problems we deal with. We go for a walk with you and we always choose a busy park and usually stop this in an hour.

What training methods do you use

Unlike some trainers, we only use “treats” in some circumstances particularly with high level obedience training. They are over used and eventually do not work with problem behaviour. Our method is correction and then reward with praise. Enticing or “bribing” a dog is counter-productive and they soon spot how to manipulate the situation. The most important training, however, is the owner training so that you can control your dog.

Do you have puppy classes

The short answer is NO. We simply do not think they work. There are too a many puppies and they just want to play with each other and are totally distracted. The owners cannot possibly get individual attention in an hour with 8 or 10 or more people in a class. We only offer 1-2-1 puppy training in your home because it’s quicker, more effective, and cheaper!

Ruth has visited us twice to help with training our now 7 month old German shepherd. She makes training easy and enjoyable both for us and for our puppy and with perseverance it works. She has helped us tremendously with our puppy training and he wouldn't be as well behaved as he is without Ruth's training and advice. Any problems and/or worries we have are always easily remedied and nothing is too much trouble, she will accommodate you. We would highly recommend Leeds Dog School.

Excellent advice. Our westiepoo has changed from a dog who was barking and jumping up to a calmer and more confident dog. I was very surprised at the change in him in such a short period of time! It was easy after being shown the correct way to train him.

    Thank you Rob and Steve!

Rob came to see my very headstrong 9 month old Border Collie today. The techniques he taught me to show my dog that I am the boss have already started to work he is a lot more well behaved and walks on the lead so much better. Rob is very knowledgeable, approachable and his experience with dogs really shows. I would 100% recommended Rob to anyone who really wants to understand their dog. I’ve tried a lot of trainers but Rob’s techniques really get results.

We are over the moon with the tools and advice that Ruth gave us, thank you so much 😁He even walked better tonight and didn't jump at our daughter when she got home. Deffo recommend Leeds dog school.

We have a 5 month old beagle and as neither me or my partner have owned a dog before didn't know if she was being naughty, a puppy or just a beagle. We got Ruth round who identified she was a bit of a puppy but that the hierarchy was definitely not as it should be and this is what was causing most of the behavioural issues. Ruth sat with us as we talked through our experiences with our dog and listened and picked up on the areas where we were going wrong and afterward sat with us and the dog and showed us how to address the problems, after showing us for a bit let us try and gave tips to help us work with her better. After a bit of inside work we headed out on the lead and got some advice and guidance whilst on walks. I can happily say that even after a day the advice and guidance we were given has shown noticeable improvements both in and out the house. Ruth was professional, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. I would 100% recommend her to anyone who is having trouble with their dog.

After one visit my mind is completely blown. I had an issue with my dog barking and ignoring my commands, unless I had food. Within 15 minutes she was already responding and obeying my instruction.
I would 100% recommend Leeds Dog Training. Worth every penny and, if you look at the lifespan of a dog it’s a very small financial investment for a happy dog and owner for all the years you are together.
