STOPPING BAD BEHAVIOUR FROM DAY ONE!

It’s tempting to put your Rescue dog’s bad behaviour down to its bad experience and tolerate barking, biting, pulling on the lead, and aggression for a time. This is not acceptable and unless these behaviour are not dealt with quickly your life will be a misery. Your dog needs stability and training and a routine provides this

ONE TO ONE BEHAVIOUR TRAINING

At Leeds Dog School we train your Rescue dog and you! We believe that one to one training with you and your dog at your home is the best way of training and stopping dog bad behaviour. This allows us to concentrate on your specific problems. All this means that you can follow up our training and make sure your dog does not slip back into its old ways.

It's vital to get them on the right track as soon as possible. Dogs learn quickly what behaviour is acceptable but they have to be taught.

We visit your home and we will go for a walk with you and your dog or puppy to ensure that you know exactly how to correct bad behaviour and to reward good behaviour. Ignoring dog bad behaviour is wrong it should always be corrected when behaving badly and only good behaviour should be rewarded.

RUNNING AWAY AND WILL NOT COME BACK

Poor recall is probably the most common dog bad behaviour that we come across. It makes it almost impossible to let your dog or puppy off the lead on a walk. The owner is constantly anxious that it will simply ignore them.  We can teach you a few techniques that solve this and make going for a walk a pleasure.

PULLING ON THE LEAD

Pulling on the lead is uncomfortable for you and the for your dog. Most dogs unless properly trained are likely to pull on the lead and this makes going for a walk an unpleasant experience. Owners have often been advised to buy a harness. We do not recommend them unless you want your dog trained to pull a sledge like a husky! Similarly, choke chains are positively dangerous. We offer a number of methods which solve this permanently and easily.

JUMPING UP AT PEOPLE AT HOME OR ON A WALK

Our objective in dog training is to train our clients to control their dog or puppy. We are training the owner almost as much as the dog or puppy. Until you have the right techniques jumping up will always be a problem. Once your dog realises that you are in charge, this kind of behaviour stops. We will teach you the simple techniques quickly and easily.

Aggression in a dog whether to other dogs or to people is totally unacceptable. We have to teach our clients to be assertive and to know how to correct the dog to prevent aggression happening in the first place. Our training is not theoretical but practical and we give you practical techniques to take control.

LEEDS DOG SCHOOL STOP DOG BAD BEHAVIOUR

Some trainers believe that giving a dog treats is the best way to train but in our opinion relying on treats exclusively just does not work. Your dog may learn how behave but only does it at because there's a treat at the end of it and many times treats just stop working. Essentially you are bribing the dog to behave properly.Bad behaviour by a dog makes an owner’s life a misery. Our dog training solves problems with bad behaviour as this is our speciality. Many of the problems are very common and we work with your dog and just as importantly, with you at your home or on a walk, to solve the problems.

  • Stop pulling on the lead
  • Stop lunging at other dogs
  • Stop barking at dogs & people
  • Stop jumping up at people
  • Stop aggression
  • Stop running away and not returning
  • Stop constant barking
  • Stop barking at the door
What problem dog behaviour do you deal with

If your dog is, jumping up at people or you, stealing food, destructive, running out of the door,  barking constantly, aggressive to humans or dogs and more … you need home 1-2-1 home training. Two hours is usually enough to cure most problems because we train you to take control and then you don’t need us anymore.

What areas of Yorkshire do you cover

We train throughout Yorkshire. We come to your home wherever you live in Yorkshire and work with you and your dog or puppy on a 1-2-1 basis.

What breeds do you train

We train all breeds of dog from "designer" dogs such as the cockapoo or labradoodle through to working dogs such as spaniels and terriers. We also specialise in larger dogs such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, all Mastiffs.

My dog is terrible when I go for a walk can you help

Pulling on the lead , running away and refusing to return, and barking and lunging at other dogs  are the most common problems we deal with. We go for a walk with you and we always choose a busy park and usually stop this in an hour.

What training methods do you use

Unlike some trainers, we only use “treats” in some circumstances particularly with high level obedience training. They are over used and eventually do not work with problem behaviour. Our method is correction and then reward with praise. Enticing or “bribing” a dog is counter-productive and they soon spot how to manipulate the situation. The most important training, however, is the owner training so that you can control your dog.

Do you have puppy classes

The short answer is NO. We simply do not think they work. There are too a many puppies and they just want to play with each other and are totally distracted. The owners cannot possibly get individual attention in an hour with 8 or 10 or more people in a class. We only offer 1-2-1 puppy training in your home because it’s quicker, more effective, and cheaper!

After an initial telephone conversation with a lovely gentleman at Leeds Dog School , Rob came to see our 9 month old Labrador who was jumping up, stealing food, and making it difficult for me to leave the room without him barking or trying to follow me. Rob had an immediate impact . Everything he said would happen actually happened !! He showed us simple but effective techniques that work and explained the psychology begins it so you understand . A very genuine , knowledgeable man who wants to help people to enjoy their dogs and make lives easier. Will definitely be booking another session to address pulling on lead and recall and feel very confident that Rob will be able to address . Thank you so much . Highly recommended .

We have a 9week old golden retriever who was generally being a naughty puppy but we didn’t really know how to address the bad behaviour (biting, constant crying in the crate, jumping up etc.).

We found Leeds Dog School on-line and given the 5star reviews from everyone, we decided to give them a call.

A few days later Rob come round and literally within 10minutes we noticed a change in our puppies behaviour through us leaning simple but effective techniques.

    Would highly recommend.

Rob visited me and my 13 month Cocker Spaniel this afternoon and he was brilliant. He helped us set up the foundations of training so we can eventually let him off the lead. I instantly noticed a difference in his behaviour and I now enjoy walking him without him virtually pulling my arm off! I would recommend Rob to anyone, he really is excellent.

Had this guy in my house less than 5 minutes and he had my 8 month old Labrador x Akita listening to what we said and also stopped her jumping up and chewing her lead. Absolutely amazing will definitely recommend him to anyone who need a dog trainer.

Just had our first session, so impressed with how it has gone! The hour started with our 6 month old GSD ripping a hole in Rob's jumper and ended with a calm puppy. Just successfully mopped the living room floor with a spectator rather than "helper". Looking forward to the next session. Thanks so much!

I contacted Leeds Dog School for help in controlling our Labrador's incessant and aggressive barking at anyone who comes to the house. It had reached the point where my own mother has stopped visiting because of the din my dog makes. Rob came out and showed us a very simple technique which worked immediately and is easy for the whole family to implement and commit to.

Had our first session today with Rob. It's not rocket science what you learn, it's sensible and practice lessons in dog behaviour. We love our 2 year old black Labrador, but he runs rings around us, and we are too soft. Not anymore, Rob has show us how to gain control and correct Finley. So we have less stress with our dog. Looking forward to the next session.

Rob came to our house to help us with our 5 year old Doberman. In less than 15 minutes he had stopped her barking when people came to the door. We've seen a massive improvement in her behaviour already since he came and can't wait for him to come back to help us tackle her response to joggers, cyclists, etc.

Rob was able to quickly demonstrate the techniques we had been lacking to get both our spaniel and wire haired pointer to walk to heel. A very simple yet effective correction that has solved 3 years of problem behaviour on the lead.
